Disappointed

According to the website, we were given the impression that this was something special. We definitely didn’t think so. Upon our arrival, we quickly learned that the restrooms were outhouses. We then went inside looking for the restaurant, and were told it was two flight up. Climbing two flights of stairs isn’t that easy for two people in their late 70s. Since the website boasted of pictures of beautiful delicious food, we anticipated a treat. Another disappointment! We ordered a BLT and a BBQ sandwich. We chose chips as our side since the Cole slaw and potato salad were commercially prepared. We were under the impression sandwich bread was prepared from their famous stone ground flour. Again, not so. We know this because we asked. Bottled soda, water, and tea were the selections. This experience was definitely not worth the drive from Springfield.

Disappointed

We were looking for a great experience based on the website. Not pleased about no indoor restrooms, but had to use an outhouse. Going to the restaurant was a chore since it was two flights up. Not an easy to navigate for two oldsters in their late 70s. The food wasn’t anything special. The sandwich bread isn’t made from the stone ground flour, but commercial. The employees we encountered were very nice.

Very disappointed

We live in the area and had no idea the Bean Palace is permanently closed. We went to the mill for lunch after church only to find out that the restaurant on the third floor is closed and there is now a carry out cafe on the second floor. We checked the web for the lunch menu before going and no where did it say the restaurant is closed. It did say they were taking a short break from August 15 to September 1. I guess they decided it was not worth opening back up. My advice don't go to War Eagle if you are planning on eating something more than drive through or carry out food. If you are out for sight seeing it is a GREAT place to visit.
